Can I change my tutor tier?

Yes, your tier can change. If you feel your experience or qualifications now meet the criteria for a higher tier, please get in touch at tutoring@lanterna.com and we will look into whether a change is possible. When you reach out, please explain what qualifies you for the higher tier and make sure your experience is comparable to the criteria for that tier.

The final decision on tutor tiers rests with Lanterna Education.

Timing We try to avoid moving tutors between tiers during the academic year to minimise disruption to students. When a tutor moves to a higher tier, their hourly rate increases, which also affects their existing students. In those cases, we always contact existing students first to give them the option of continuing with their tutor at the new rate, or being matched with a new tutor at the original rate.

For this reason, tier changes are much smoother when you do not have any active students at the time, and we are unlikely to process a tier change during the academic year unless there is good reason to do so.

Moving down a tier Tutors can request to move down a tier at any time.
