What are tutor tiers?

At Lanterna Education, our tutors are placed into one of three tiers: Standard, Higher, and Top. The tier system reflects your level of experience and qualifications, and determines your pay rate. You will be informed of your tier when you first join us.

Broadly speaking, tutors need the following experience for each tier:

• Top Tier (TT): Top Tier tutors are IB teachers who are also IB examiners, or IB teachers who have built a strong track record of excellent results and long-standing trust with Lanterna over time. This is our most experienced tier, combining deep subject knowledge with examiner-level insight.
• Higher Tier (HT): Higher Tier tutors are experienced IB educators who work, or have previously worked, as teachers in IB schools. This tier reflects professional classroom experience alongside subject expertise.
• Standard Tier (ST): Standard Tier tutors are recent IB graduates who have achieved a minimum of 40 points overall and a 7 in the subject they tutor.
