What are the tutor types (Graduates, Teachers & Specialists)?

The three tutor types and who each suits

Every Lanterna tutor is an IB specialist who scored highly in the Diploma themselves. We group our tutors into three types so you can pick the level of experience that fits your goals and budget.

Graduates

Graduates scored 40+ in the IB overall and a 7 in the subject(s) they teach. Many are current students at top universities, so they remember exactly what the Diploma feels like and how to succeed in it. Best for building confidence, staying on top of coursework, and clear, relatable subject help.

Teachers

Teachers are certified, experienced IB teachers with around 15 years of classroom experience on average. Best for deeper subject mastery, exam strategy and structured support across a whole course.

Specialists

Specialists are Teachers who also have IB examiner or senior-marker experience. Because they have marked real IB assessments, they know precisely how marks are awarded and can coach exam technique from the marker's point of view. Best for the final push on grades, high-stakes exam preparation and demanding written work. (When people say "IB Examiner tutor", they mean a Specialist.)

Which should I choose?

There is no wrong choice — all three types are fully vetted and highly rated. The per-hour rate depends on the package and the tutor type you choose, with Graduates the most affordable and Specialists the most experienced. If you are not sure, tell us your goals and we will recommend the right fit.
