Contacting a student for the first time
When we've linked you with a student on the Portal, you should email them immediately.
Your first email is an opportunity to introduce yourself to the student and to begin arranging their support.
The procedure for what to do depends on if you're a Lanterna or EIB tutor.
For EIB tutors:
- Reach out to the student within 24 hours. You can find their contract details by logging into the Portal > My Students > Click the Student's name in your list of students.
- In the email, you should:
- Introduce yourself, your education, and background, and enthuse the student about the start of your support
- Outline your availability for lessons and make suggestions for when your first lesson will be
- Clarify what platform you'll deliver your support on (Zoom, Google Meets etc.) - You should ensure you cc:
- tutoring@eliteib.co.uk (so that we know you and the student are in touch)
- the parental email address. You can find their contract details by logging into the Portal > My Students > Click the Student's name in your list of students.
For Lanterna tutors:
- Reach out to the student within 24 hours once you have been linked. You can find their contract details by logging into the Portal > My Students > Click the Student's name in your list of students.
- In the email, you should:
- Introduce yourself (name, IB score, what are you currently studying and where - good to angle this in a way that makes it relevant to what you are teaching them if possible),
- Specify the number of hours you have with the student, and make suggestions about how best to divide the hours
- Outline your availability for lessons and make suggestions for when your first lesson will be
- Clarify what platform you'll deliver your support on (Zoom, Google Meets etc.) - You should ensure you cc:
- tutoring@lanterna.com (so that we know you and the student are in touch)
- the parental email address. You can find their contract details by logging into the Portal > My Students > Click the Student's name in your list of students.
We advise and recommend to use email communication with both students and parents. In certain instances under parental consent along with our consent you can request to communicate via WhatsApp. However, this should be avoided if possible!
