School Support | How jobs are allocated and why you may not have been selected
Jobs are not allocated purely first-come-first-served. Selection depends on fit, availability, profile strength, school requirements and workload balancing across the teaching team.
Short answer
School Support jobs are allocated based on fit, not just speed. The team is trying to match the school’s needs with teacher availability, experience and profile quality while also balancing workload across the teaching team.
What affects selection
The following all matter:
- subject and curriculum fit
- IB experience and examiner status where relevant
- timezone fit
- current availability
- hardware / delivery readiness
- profile quality (certificates, intro video, accurate experience)
- how overloaded you already are with existing work
- your style of communication, responsiveness and politeness when in dialogue with Lanterna. This matters a lot!
Why someone may not be selected
You may not be selected because:
- another teacher is a closer fit for that specific school
- the times do not match your stated availability
- your profile is incomplete or out of date
- the team is balancing work across the teacher pool
- the school has requested something very specific
What improves your chances
- keep availability accurate in Hive
- upload new certificates and IB training
- keep your intro / profile current
- add useful context in the application itself
- maintain strong communication and professionalism
Seasonality matters
Demand is not flat through the year. There are peak periods — for example around September and January — and quieter periods where fewer opportunities are available.
What you should not expect
Lanterna may not be able to give detailed personal feedback on every unsuccessful application. The fastest way to improve outcomes is usually to improve the quality and accuracy of your profile and applications.
