School Support | More non-teaching hours, extra hours, and extensions
Do not assume extra hours or extra non-teaching work are approved. Ask Lanterna before doing work beyond the agreed allowance or before relying on an extension.
Short answer
If you need more hours than the assignment currently includes — whether live teaching hours or non-teaching hours — raise it with Lanterna before doing the work.
Situations where this comes up
- students are further behind than expected
- the school adds more classes
- marking / IA support takes longer than the original brief suggested
- an extension is being discussed but not yet confirmed
- a school asks for more preparation, meetings or assessment support
What to send Lanterna
Please include:
- what additional work is being requested
- whether it is live teaching or non-teaching
- your estimate of the extra hours
- whether there is a deadline
- whether the school has already indicated willingness to expand the scope
Why this matters
Until extra hours are agreed:
- they are not guaranteed to be paid
- they may not yet exist in Hive
- the school may not yet have approved the additional spend
Best practice
Treat any extension or extra workload as pending until Lanterna confirms it.
