Signing your Lanterna/EIB Agreement
Signing your Lanterna/EIB Agreement
When you have successfully interviewed with EIB or Lanterna, we'll invite you to become a tutor.
To do so, we'll need you to sign an agreement with us and - if you're based in the UK - an additional document called an "Employee Starter Checklist" as well.
It doesn't matter if you're joining EIB or Lanterna, in either case your agreement will be with Lanterna Education Ltd.
What you will have to do next depends on if you are in the UK or outside the UK. After your interview, we'll be in touch to confirm if you live in the UK or if you live outside the UK so we can send you the right contract. Generally, if you are physically present in the UK for 183 days or more in a tax year you will be resident in the UK for that year.
If you're outside of the UK
If you're outside the UK, we'll ask you to sign a 'contractor' agreement (code: LEINTL22 OR EIBINTL22). We'll send this agreement to you and you should read it carefully before signing the agreement.
You should not write a UK address on this document.
Once you've signed the agreement, we'll invite you to register on the Portal as a tutor, and you can begin applying to support students.
If you're in the UK
Tutors in the UK must sign a PAYE agreement (code: LEUK22 OR EIBUK22) and an Employee Starter Checklist.
1. PAYE Contracts
A PAYE contract means we make the necessary contributions (such as tax, student loans payments etc.) for you and we deduct these from your earning before we pay you each month.
We'll send you your contract by email via Scrive, you should:
- Read the agreement carefully
- Write your full legal name (including middle names)
- Write a UK address
- Provide a National Insurance Number (NIN).
- If you do not have a National Insurance Number, you can still sign your agreement, but instead of a NIN you should provide another ID of a piece of official identification, and then write immediately after the number the name of the document (eg. XX127VD22F - French Passport). Do not leave the NIN field blank or you will void your agreement.
- Send lawrence@lanterna.com a scan of the document you have used in place of a NIN.
- Immediately apply for a NIN
- In addition, you must prove your right to work in the UK. You can read more information about how to do this here. - Sign the agreement via Scrive
N.B. You must ensure you have the right to work in the UK before signing an agreement. If you are based in the UK, but don't have the right to work, you cannot sign a contractor agreement.
2. Employee Starter Checklist
An Employee Starter Checklist gives us the necessary information to make contributions on your behalf.
To complete your Starter Checklist, complete the following tasks in order:
- Complete the Starter Checklist form here. Read the form carefully and answer accurately.
- List your 'Employment start date' as the date you signed your PAYE agreement (this will be autofilled in the PDF copy Scrive sends you after signing your agreement)
- On the final stage of the form, click 'Preview' to view a PDF of your Starter Checklist
- Download your Starter Checklist and sign and date the final page of the checklist (a digital signature is acceptable, but it cannot be typed out)
- Email your signed Starter Checklist to lawerence@lanterna.com
Once we have received your PAYE contract, we'll invite you to register on the Portal as a tutor, and you can begin applying to support students.
If you have any questions, please contact lawrence@lanterna.com.
